Young Writers Program Fic Compilation
We all know how important reading is on childhood
development and the impact it has on the future of a child. But did you know
creative writing also has a very large impact as well? Creative writing has
proven to improve a child’s imagination and creativity, self-expression,
self-confidence, communication and persuasion skills. Not to mention that it
makes children far more likely to improve their reading skills and want to read
more.
The skills gained in creative writing are skills that will
shape and follow them for the rest of their lives. In the age where technology is
rapidly advancing every single day, creativity and imagination is immensely important
in being able to keep pace and advance in the ever-changing world. Not to
mention the magnitude of impact communication and persuasion can have.
Communication makes and breaks businesses every single day, saves and loses
vast amounts of money, is the difference between life and death or a near miss
and absolute disaster.
Children often have difficulty understanding and expressing
how they feel. Through writing, children have a safe place to explore, and this
can be a highly beneficial tool for expressing their feelings. The better a child
learns how to express themselves, the greater their coping ability is and the
better they can communicate.
Writing gives children an avenue to develop their own self
and ideas, to explore who they are and to develop self-confidence. The more
confidence a child has in him or herself, the more likely they are to be able
to make and achieve goals, take calculated risks, make decisions, develop
self-reliance and overall it increases the odds of achieving success.
Creative writing is immensely important in the development
of young minds, almost as much so as reading development.
Do you remember the first short story you wrote? Do you
remember how you felt afterwards? If you’re a fanfic writer, do you remember
the rush and euphoria of getting followers, being favorited and reading
reviews? Some fanfic writers have even gained enough confidence to jump into
the deep end of getting their works published. Imagine how far all of that
could go in building up a young person.
The Charity we’ve chosen for this endeavor is NaNoWriMo’s
Young Writers Program. I, along with many others, have participated in
NaNoWriMo in the month of November. But did you know that there is a program for
educators to give their classes that opportunity as well?
NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers Program can provide Lesson Plans,
Student Workbooks, Classroom Kits, Pep-talks, Events and guides on how to get the
process started.
Here are some of the impacts of YWP:
Donations to this compilation has the following impacts:
10$ sends a noveling kit to a deserving classroom
10$ sends a noveling kit to a deserving classroom
25$ powers the YWP website for 10 hours
50$ pays for a motivating, in-person classroom visit
100$ supports a kid-geared pep talk by a favorite author.

Enrollment for participation is open from November 1st,
2018 until September 30th 2019. Submissions are due by October 10th
2019.

Usually when the fandom does fundraisers, it’s in the face
of crisis, which understandably brings about the need for a tight deadline. I
wanted to do this in a manner to where people don’t have to stress themselves
in order to come up with the cash to contribute and writers don’t have to jump
through hoops in order to get a piece written in time.
